4. Report on ‘Laguna Koi Show' at the FBAS 'Festival of Fish keeping' September 2005 & 2006
As always, part of the Federation of British Aquarist's annual festival held at Hayling Island is the ‘Laguna‘ sponsored 4 Section Koi Show. The BKKS Sections involved are South East, MSB (Middlesex & Surrey Borders), South Hants and our own Worthing & District Section. Here are some interesting facts about how the five Worthing & District Section entrants faired;
For 2006 - go to South Hants web site.
For 2005 - Steve Watson had a First and also Jumbo Champion with ‘Orangeade‘ a size 6 Non-Metallic.
Angie Watson had a First, Second and two Thirds.
George Loft had three Seconds and two Thirds.
Jenny and Peter Pope had three Seconds.
Brian Whipp had two Firsts and also Worthing Champion with ‘Jenny‘ a size 5 Sanke.
The giant cup that Steve won for his ‘Jumbo’ fish has to be seen to be believed. How he and Angie managed to get in in their car we do not know!
There were seven classes with 6 sizes: Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Utsuri, Gin-Rin, Metallic and Non-Metallic. The Grand Champion’s owner was Alan Archer from the South East Section with a size 6 Sanke, The Baby Champion’s owner was Barrie and Keith Burkin with a size 2 Sanke. The rest of the other Section results can be found on the South Hants Section Web site.
The ‘Festival of Fish keeping’ of which the koi festival is part, is growing in stature.
This year saw more Fish businesses attending with attendances up. Everybody remarked on the much better venue of Mill Rythe Holiday Village. The quality of the fish on show was stunning! Thanks however must go to the volunteers who put the show on and that includes the Worthing Section members who helped set up and also being the water-changing team. Not only did they have the energy to do our own Section Show but seem to have plenty left for this one!
They worked tirelessly including doing ’night-watchman’ duties. Some vats had at least five water changes over the week end.
The Worthing & District Section can certainly be proud of their showing in this ‘Aquarian Festival’ Show piece event!
