2. BRIAN & LORNA WHIPP

The pond and filtration hold a total of 3000 gallons. Built in 1997 it has one bottom drain with a airdome and two filtration systems.

Three 'Highblow' 40's feed air to the seven air stones in the main filtration unit, airdome and air curtain in the pond.

The pond is gravity feed to a large vortex which supplies the three bay filter. One has brushes and two bays have Japanese matting. Two 'Grunfos' circulating pumps feed the the pond, one via 55w UV and the other via a vegetable filter planted with Arum lilies and Irises.

The pond is constructed in brick and concrete block and has been fibre glassed.  A third 'Grunfos' pump from a skimmer returns via a 'EazyPod' filter to the pond at mid level. This circuit has a 2kw 'Electro' pond heater.

The pond is covered in the winter months with a polycarbonate roof.

The pond contains ten Koi of mixed variety up to size five.

3. STEVE & ANGIE WATSON

Completed in May 1999, the pond is 19ft x 14ft and is 8ft deep. Constructed with 18in hollow concrete blocks, rendered with fibre mix and fibre glassed, it holds 8888 gallons excluding filtration.

The filter system set behind and below the rockery (or 'bomb shelter' as Angie lovingly describes it!) is feed by four 4 inch 'Paragon' flip top bottom drains to two vortex's each measuring 4ft diameter and 8ft deep.

With the two 4 bay 'World of Koi' filters, filtration is 3640 gallons. Two 750 'Sequence' pumps plus a 1/6th hp pump drive the system. There are two returns to the pond with a surface skimmer feeding a vegetable filter via a protein skimmer, returning to the pond via a weir.

With air pumps, a bank of u/v lamps totalling 165 watts completes the system.  A 50,000 btu boiler keeps the pampered pets warm in the cooler months.

4. FRED & JEAN BRICE

This pond was constructed in 1999. It is cement block, rendered and fibre glassed.  Size is 18ft X 9ft and 5' 3in deep holding 6000 gallons. Two 4in bottom drains feed a filter system containing Vortex, brushes, flocor, Jap matting and sponges.

The pond has a 55watt u/v, is heated by a gas heat exchanger and is driven by a 1.8hp 'Bressner' pump. A 'Oase' pump drives the skimmer which feeds a vegetable filter with return to the pond via a weir.

The pond holds 30 odd koi ranging between 18 - 30ins.  Fred & Jean also have a fine fish house to bring on babies and a 300 gallon quarantine system.

5. CHRISTINE SHARP & DAVE CRITTLE

This self build pond was started 4 years ago (2002) and was filled 2 years later. It is still not complete and there are quite a few features yet to be added.  The pond is gravity feed and holds 4000 gallons not including the filters.  The 2 bottom drains feed into a large vortex with a 4 bay filter holding brushes, flocor and Jap matting.

A Sequence pump drives the system through a 35 watt U.V. to a selection of 4 pond inlets with a separate pump from the skimmer feeding a vegetable filter which returns to the pond over a weir.  This, with 2 air pumps gives plenty of oxygen to the system.

The pond is constructed with cement thermal blocks and reinforced concrete and was fibre glassed by Dave himself.  Water pipe heating elements have been placed under the floor of the pond and will be connected to a gas boiler which will also serve the under floor heated 500 gallon quarantine system recently constructed (Dec 2006).

Christine & Dave also have a small quarantine tank of 50 gallons with a indoor Aquarium of 28 gallons to bring on their babies!

6. George & Olive Loft's Pond

A 'D' shaped pond of 5500 gallons (25000 litres) and 6' (1.9 metres) deep lined with fibreglass and complete with a bottom drain and air dome.

Filtered by a 4 bay filter starting with a vortex, followed by a brush chamber, then flocor with air stones and lastly jap matting with air stones. There is an electric bay with 1 x 55w UV, 1 x 15w UV, 2 'Grunfos' 25/55 pumps plus a High Blow 40 and 60.

The pond has a skimmer powered by a Sequence 750 pump. The fish are mostly Go Sanke plus a Chagoi and some Shiro Utsuri.

There is also a quarantine system at the bottom of the garden of 272 gallons (1235 litres) with air stones, 15w UV and a small filter of flocor and air pump.

7. Peter Toon & Jo Lang's Pond

Peter & Jo have a natural looking in the ground Koi pond, which has recently been raised after alterations.

Although it has held fish since 2003, it now holds 1765 gallons (8000 litres) and is filtered by two 'Biotech' 10 foam filters (the original filters) and a new system comprising a vortex and a three chamber bay filter containing flocor, foam & jap matting.

The Koi are accompanied by Rudd, Roach, Chub and goldfish of various varieties.  They are soon about to change the pond again, making it deeper with a bottom drain and fibre glassed.  Watch this space for updates on the work!

8. Tony & Diane Flood's Pond

A uniquely covered pond of 3530 gallons (16026 litres), it is 5' deep (1.5 metres) with a bottom drain and air dome to a gravity feed vortex and four bay filter containing brushes. flocor. jap matting and alfagrog.

Air stones and dome are feed by a 80 litre air pump. The pond pump is a 'Blagdon' 10000 litre and hour system which goes through a 55w UV. The pond contains around 30 Koi of various varieties.

Tony and Diane also have a heated quarantine system of 350 gallons (1590 litres) run by a box filter with a UV and a 40 litre air pump.

9. Heather & Glen Moore's Pond

From an old pond 9ft x 8ft and 4ft deep holding 2000 gals, Heather and Glen Moore have recently altered it to hold 3,500 gallons.

Starting in February 2007, they had their new pond finished and running within four weeks.
The new pond is 12ft x 8ft.8in x 6ft deep and fitted with liner. Filters are a vor-tec 30000 with sequence pump 10000 and an aerated bottom drain plus a skimmer.

A glass window 3ft x18"x19mm.has been fitted. The top half of the new pond is constructed in 9 "x 2" wood with loft insulation between panels. It is finished in white cladding.
